Payroll Manager - Lead, Innovate, Deliver


Ready to take ownership of a critical function in a fast-growing organization? We're looking for a Payroll Manager who thrives on accuracy, leadership, and continuous improvement. In this role, you'll ensure every employee is paid correctly and on time, while driving compliance and efficiency across the payroll function. You'll lead a talented team, manage complex payroll operations, and play a key role in shaping future processes.

What You'll Do


  • Own the end-to-end payroll process for a large, multi-PAYE organization.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing payroll team.
  • Drive process improvements and collaborate across departments to resolve issues and implement best practices.
  • Ensure full payroll reconciliation and accurate reporting to HMRC and pension providers.
  • Oversee pension and insured benefit schemes, including renewals and compliance.
  • Provide expert advice on pay and benefits to employees and respond promptly to external agency queries.
  • Manage payroll activities for acquisitions and TUPE transfers.
  • Deliver all statutory reporting (P11Ds, PSA, termination payments) and year-end submissions.
  • Stay ahead of legislation changes and lead on new payroll projects.
  • Produce Gender Pay Gap reports and other mandatory compliance-related reporting.
  • Analyze payroll data and trends to inform business decisions.

What We're Looking For


  • CIPP qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience managing medium to large UK payrolls with multiple PAYEs.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, taxation, and national insurance rules.
  • Leadership experience with a track record of team development.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze complex data.
  • Experience in change management and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Flexible and proactive approach during peak periods.
