LHH Recruitment Solutions are delighted to be partnering a growing law firm to recruit for their Financial Controller. This position reports to the CEO and Chief Financial Officer.
The role specifically requires someone to be in the office in the City of London 5 days a week.
Salary expectation - the client is happy to be guided depending on experience.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced qualified finance professional, likely a Financial Controller or Finance Manager, to step into a strategic role. The position reports directly to the CEO and CFO you will act as a key deputy, taking ownership of the day-to-day financial operations while progressively contributing to strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant with a strong commercial mindset, a hands-on approach and the ambition to grow into a full Financial Director position.
Responsibilities include:
Financial Control & Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
- Lead the statutory reporting, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP / IFRS standards.
- Manage the year-end audit process, acting as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Ensure the integrity of the financial control environment, implementing and improving policies and procedures.
- Oversee all tax and regulatory compliance, including VAT and Corporation Tax filings.
Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Full responsibility for the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, partnering with department heads to build robust plans.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Provide insightful variance analysis and commentary to the senior leadership team, identifying key trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to drive business performance.
Strategic Finance & Business Partnering:
- Act as a business partner to departmental leaders, providing financial guidance and support for commercial decisions.
- Assist the CFO/FD with strategic projects, M&A due diligence, and long-term financial strategy.
- Manage treasury functions, including cash flow forecasting and optimising working capital for the firm.
- Contribute to board-level reporting and presentations.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and mentor a small finance team (e.g., Financial Accountants, Management Accountants).
- Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and support the professional development of your team members.
- Foster a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
Essential requirements:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in a relevant finance role.
Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Senior Finance Manager.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP / IFRS).
Demonstrable experience in managing month-end/year-end processes and leading audits.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Xero) and ERP systems.
- Prior experience in managing and developing a team.
Desirable:
* Experience within the legal or professional services sector.
* Experience in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
* Experience with financial modelling.
