Assistant Financial Controller
Location: Nottingham
Reports to: Financial Controller
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Controller to join our finance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage financial reporting, compliance, and tax processes across multiple entities.
Role Purpose
To support the Record-to-Report (RTR) function across multiple UK entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, completion of internal controls, and delivery of tax-related obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End
- Manage the monthly close process for several UK entities, ensuring deadlines are met and submissions are accurate.
- Review and approve journals and reconciliations prepared by shared service teams, ensuring compliance with accounting policies.
- Take ownership of assigned RTR deliverables and submit consolidated results into the Group consolidation system.
RTR Controls & Compliance
- Act as control owner for all assigned RTR controls; maintain documentation, support walkthroughs, and address deficiencies.
- Coordinate with offshore teams to ensure SOX-relevant tasks are completed accurately and on time, escalating issues where needed.
Tax & Statutory Support
- Own the VAT process for all entities and handle related queries.
- Coordinate other tax-related processes such as PSA, CIS, and EIS reporting.
- Support UK corporation tax processes, including quarterly reporting and annual filing for UK entities and an Irish branch.
Team Leadership & Development
- Line manage two UK-based team members.
- Oversee day-to-day RTR task delivery, prioritisation, and capacity planning across both UK and offshore teams.
- Support cross-training and development to improve resilience and reduce key-person risk.
Key Skills & Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of UK GAAP and internal control frameworks (SOX experience preferred).
- Hands-on experience with month-end close and balance sheet ownership.
- VAT and general tax knowledge (corporation tax exposure desirable).
- Ability to manage and develop junior team members.
- Comfortable working with offshore teams.
- Experienced with systems such as SAP, EPM, Esker or similar.
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to balance detail with broader business needs.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in a multi-entity or shared service environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across time zones and functions.
- Comfortable with change and able to lead others through it.
