Role: Strategic Sourcing Manager
Location: Downtown Houston, TX 77002
Schedule: Hybrid (Mon–Thu Onsite / Fri Remote), 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Duration: Contract (6 months till July 2026)
Hourly Rate: $60/hr - $85/hr depending on experience
Travel: 5–10% annually
About the Role
The Sourcing Manager leads the enterprise sourcing process for assigned categories—such as chemicals, rental equipment, and small parcels—by developing and implementing category strategies, managing supplier relationships, and executing RFx events. This role does not directly purchase goods or services but serves as the primary owner of sourcing and supplier management for designated categories.
Success in this position requires exceptional critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a strong drive to deliver results. The ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, foster collaboration across teams, and maintain a partnership mindset with functional owners and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement category strategies aligned with enterprise objectives.
Lead RFx events (RFI, RFP, RFQ) for assigned categories, including bid preparation, evaluation, and supplier selection.
Manage supplier relationships, including performance reviews and issue resolution.
Analyze market trends and data—including commodities indices—to inform sourcing decisions and negotiations.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align sourcing strategies with business needs.
Negotiate major contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with quality, delivery, and price standards.
Research and maintain a pipeline of qualified suppliers.
Track and report category performance, supplier effectiveness, and cost savings.
Stay current on industry trends and best practices through training and events.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree (accredited)
ORHigh School Diploma/GED plus 4 years of relevant work experience
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in strategic sourcing or category management for enterprise categories.
Required Skills & Knowledge
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and drive to deliver results
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build relationships and collaborate across teams and functions
Familiarity with commodities indices and their impact on sourcing and price negotiations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with chemicals, rental equipment, small parcels, or similar categories preferred.
Certifications & Training:
Six Sigma or Lean methodology training (nice to have)
Professional certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
Technical & Industry Knowledge:
Familiarity with procurement platforms (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa, Oracle SCM)
Understanding of commodities indices and their impact on sourcing and negotiations
Exposure to global sourcing practices and compliance
Additional Skills:
Strong negotiation experience with major contracts
Ability to identify and implement process improvements
Supplier performance management and evaluation techniques
Work Environment
Ability to work in a hybrid schedule (Mon–Thu onsite, Fri remote)
Ability to travel 5–10% annually
