SENIOR ESTIMATOR - Wet Utilities
Position Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the preparation of accurate and competitive bids for complex underground utility construction projects, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems. This role partners closely with preconstruction, project management, and field leadership to evaluate scope, pricing, risk, and constructability to support successful project execution.
What You'll Do
- Lead the estimating process for complex commercial and municipal underground utility projects from bid invitation through final submission and project hand-off
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to fully understand scope, schedule, and constructability requirements
- Prepare and oversee detailed quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and bid proposals with accuracy and timeliness
- Develop project budgets, cost and revenue projections, and preliminary schedules
- Identify and evaluate project risks and collaborate with internal teams on mitigation strategies
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure best value and compliance with bid requirements
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Superintendents to validate production rates, material pricing, and construction approaches
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client discussions as required
- Ensure estimates comply with contract requirements, applicable municipal standards, and internal estimating guidelines
- Support the development and maintenance of client relationships for current and future opportunities
- Analyze historical cost data and develop value engineering strategies to improve competitiveness
- Maintain organized estimate files and historical cost data to support continuous improvement
- Mentor, lead, and support estimators and take-off coordinators as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Minimum of 10 years of experience estimating complex underground utility projects, including water, sewer, and storm drain
- Proven experience with bid-day processes, GMP development, budgeting, and cost forecasting; CMAR/JOC experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of municipal specifications and bid requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
- Advanced experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, or similar platforms, as well as Bluebeam and OST for document management and take-offs
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills with attention to detail
Pay Details: $120,000.00 to $160,000.00 per year
