Payroll Accountant (Hybrid – Kent, WA)
Location: Kent (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite)
Pay Rate: $32–$40/hour (DOE)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join a growing team in Kent, WA. This role combines payroll processing with accounting responsibilities, ensuring accurate payroll execution while supporting general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has strong technical payroll knowledge, a solid accounting foundation, and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
Key Responsibilities
Process full-cycle payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states
Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries to the general ledger
Reconcile payroll accounts, including wages, taxes, and benefits
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Manage payroll tax filings, accruals, and reporting requirements
Support month-end and year-end close processes related to payroll
Assist with audits by providing payroll and accounting documentation
Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data integrity across systems
Partner with HR and Finance teams on employee changes, reporting, and process improvements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3+ years of payroll and/or accounting experience
Strong understanding of payroll accounting and GAAP principles
Experience with multi-state payroll processing
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs preferred)
Experience with payroll and accounting systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, NetSuite, SAP, or similar)
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Excellent organizational and communication abilities
Preferred Qualifications
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation a plus
Experience in multi-entity or high-volume payroll environments
Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements
Experience with ERP systems and payroll integrations
